I asked if I could be her guinea pig, and sure enough, we spent hours playing with my hair, adding and taking away extensions to show what YOUR hair can look like, if you book with Natalie, on your wedding day.

The looks we went for were random, but if you have something that you'd like to have, don't spend a fortune. She can copy whatever your look, whatever your style, whatever your type of hair. Here's a few examples of her work. Recognize the model?? :)

Here, I have a "Before and After" for hair extensions. I found a box for applying semi-permanent lashes...At home!

I decided to use my sister Nikki as my guinea pig. I applied the lashes, one by one to her natural lashes. They're supposed to last up to 3 weeks, so, today is the first day. A kit is around $20 at a Pharmaplus, but this kit was so hard to find, and I haven't found it since. It's not that I'm not preparing myself for another season of weddings and boudoir, as both, for every day passing, is getting stronger and more frequent. I suppose with the lull of winter, it's easy to get a little lazy.

I wanted to let you guys know that not only am I still around and still making bookings for Spring and Summer 2009, but the other activities I'm up to.

Boudoir - March 14th and June 21st there is one booking left. The other days have filled up! For more information, head over to www.jbsmithphotography.com and hit up Jessica's blog.

Weddings - Still booking up. I have March filled to the brim, April is mainly unbooked, May I have 2 weddings and June is also becoming a filler month. *NOTE* I do not plan on doing any weddings from the 8th of August until Labour Day weekend. This is due to travel and I thought I'd let you know beforehand.

BeautyCrime - A new and exciting venture for me. We are in the process of filming for beauty crime. I write a lot of the articles pertaining to beauty tips, with more to come. Visit www.beautycrime.com for more. We are also filming application of make-up so that, when at home, you can learn from an online video to do it yourself! The website hasn't launched yet, but I'll be making people aware of when it does. For now, it's just some text, but we're hoping for a full on launch by May.

Cosmetek - For those of you who know me, I am a co-founder of a company, Cosmetek. Currently in the works, we are located in one location for trial only at Hwy 7 and Hwy 400 Wal-Mart in the L'Oreal wall. Tres fabulous. We should know more information, coming soon. It's a skin scanner which tells you what skin colour products are right for you. Easy shopping in one two three. I've attached a video!

Mosaic Sales Solutions - You can catch me at various Pharmaplus locations across the GTA until the 14th of March, talking about Olay Pro-X skin care regimen (highly recommended for the wrinkles), Perfect 10 hair colour (low ammonia, only 10 minutes to dye and strengthen hair!) and Covergirl Trublend Make-up....wasn't much of a CG fan before, but I'm actually quite happy with this line.

Last but not least,

Motives - I'm picking up a new case, and distributing Motives cosmetics. I saw the products today before choosing them over my current case, and I'm happy to say there's some great quality there. You can order from me at your trial, or if you know what you want, email me at meganpais@hotmail.com and I'll place the order for you asap. Also, if anyone uses Motives, give me a shout...I'm interested in feedback. Go to www.motivescosmetics.com to see what you may be missing!

Anyway, good to see I'm back here again!

Cheers,

Megan

Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-63454796801864780932008-11-17T06:42:00.000-08:002008-11-17T06:46:45.242-08:00Tosin's Wedding!

It has been forever since I've posted anything on my blog, here, but I've been busy with weddings, boudoir, and lift in general!

The following are pictures of a wedding I did back in October! It's a make-up sponge! It's the BeautyBlender Sponge. It sits there, on my counter now, all hot pink and cute, just waiting to be cracked open. I've heard wonderful things about it. Make-up goes on smoother, lighter, better. Your make-up is only as good as the tools you put it on with, so getting this pink egg was a necessity. AND it came with an egg cleanser. I haven't found an occasion yet to use my egg, but when I do, I'll let you know how it goes!
You can get it at Holt Renfrew for about 25-30 bucks....It must be the cheapest item in that store! It's a re-usable sponge, and will last you for a few months with proper care.

If anyone has used the egg, let me hear your story about it!
Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-79874341153663174632008-09-29T09:43:00.000-07:002008-09-29T09:46:37.638-07:00I Heart Bio-Oil Part DeuxOk, so I know I've already spoken about Bio-oil, but I was dead sick last week. Absolutely horrible. Coughing, sneezing, runny nose...I tore my nose to shreds with boxes and boxes of Kleenex. It was pink and scabbed over. It even hurt to wiggle my nose when I was unhappy at my poor little kitten, Cole!

So, two days ago, I thought, I'll put bio-oil on it to heal it a bit faster.

I woke up the next morning, and the scabbing was next to gone! The soreness was healed over by new flesh coming through and healing. I could even put make-up on it without it looking gross and crusty! Bio-Oil...I really DO heart you...Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-48109136688712469522008-09-23T09:54:00.000-07:002008-09-23T10:20:32.566-07:00Emlin Skin Care...It's a Secret, Apparently! So, I have a very tiny family. And in my very tiny family, I have an aunt, who is my father's sister, Maria.

My aunt Maria is somewhere in her high 50's, however...she looks like she's about 35-40. Her skin is always radiant, and in fact, she looks younger now than when I watch old family movies.

About 3 years ago at Christmas time, when she came up from Hotlanta (Atlanta for those of you who don't know), I asked her what the hell she was doing for her skin so that in 35 years, I'd look just as good as she does. I've already started the high spf on the face when in the sun and drinking plenty of water, and although genetics are on my side since my mother is just as lucky in the wrinkle and sag department, I wanted to know if there was a secret. And there is.

The secret's name is Emlin. Came around the time of Estee Lauder and the first major cosmetics companies, in 1979. It was then Emlin started their luxurious and exclusive bath products in all Hyatt Hotels as part of the Hyatt Hotels' way of pampering their patrons.

Since then, Emlin got many phone calls, letters, and.....Telegraphs???? Woh...Well, I told you it was a secret and it's old....

Anyway, apparently their business boomed and you can now order their products online, or visit one of their, like, THREE locations to get the products.

I had gone to Atlanta, and I wanted to check this line out for myself. It was made with mink oil, and I wanted to see what the cosmetician had to say about it.

She gave us some free samples, my aunt stocked up, and we all went on our merry way.

Now, this stuff is expensive. I won't lie, but the proof is in the pudding and it lasts forever, anyway. My aunt....amazing skin. Been using it for YEARS.

The biggest clients...old women in nursing and retirement homes. Been buying Emlin for YEARS, and still do, until their dying day. I have to say, that's loyalty to the brand!

I now have most of the Emlin products, but I have to wonder why the company never grew beyond it's current state. Alot of their clients will pass in a few years. The packaging is ugly as sin, and the entire way of marketing is horrible. In fact, no one's heard about them, even in the U.S. I thought about calling them and being their Canadian representative. I've told many cosmeticians about it, and all want to see this oil, and the creams and masks that go along with it.

I've tried the items, and I love them all. The oil is the seller though. I know I just spoke about Bio-Oil, but Mink Oil is the answer to the wrinkle question. This product wouldn't be good for young people. It is oily. But this is a great night-time serum for those of you who see the little lines creeping up on you.

Check it out, I advise it if wrinkling up into a raisen is not your cup of tea. Beats buying alot of the crap out there that doesn't so anything at all. :)

Plus...maybe someone out there can vouch for this company, and maybe I'll call them and ask them if I can distribute the product up here. What do you think?
Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com59tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-34356338591001810752008-09-18T07:43:00.000-07:002008-09-18T07:56:49.852-07:00I Heart Bio-OilI am a realist. I have worked in cosmetics and seen products come and go. Some work, most....Don't. I have seen advertisements go up, and money be spent on displays and booklets and commericals go on and on about the "New and Improved" this and that. I don't believe any of it, because frankly, I don't think there's really too much to improve.

But then....There was Bio-oil. I bought it in line at Wal-Mart for 11 bucks a month ago, and it's been sitting on my make-up counter for weeks, untouched. 'What am I going to do with a tub of oil?' I would think to myself, as I felt guilty about purchasing it in the first place.

And then my moisturizer ran out last week. I was sad. It was expensive, but it was good. Nothing special, but good. I was dehydrated after my shower. My skin was thirsty. I was stuck. And then...I decided to give my little bottle a chance. I used Bio-oil as my moisturizer. I am in love.

My old pimple scars have faded. I had a mark I attempted to pop (and failed) and I had cut myself. I don't even see a scar today. It has healed. It is gone. My eyes are light and fresh, I don't even wear concealer anymore and I wear make-up on my eyes every day. And it's an oil. As I touch my baby-butt smooth skin, I am not oily. I am supple. And at this rate, I'll look like this forever - wrinkle and aged free.

I have another skin product that has very little exposure I'd like to write about next...But today, I dedicate my entire post to...BIO-OIL!

Check it out!
Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-22901963679029485762008-09-17T11:54:00.001-07:002008-09-17T11:56:30.584-07:00New Boudoir Photos!I have some new photos from a latest boudoir! It was great. I did the make-up for three ladies, all of them wonderful, and hopefully looked and felt their best. I have to admit, two were super nervous, but I'm glad in the end they all loved it.

One of the women inquired about her wedding day. Hopefully, that works out. Another asked about me maybe sitting down and going over what I had done for her wedding down south this November. I hope it all turns out well, regardless of what end up happening.

Sidenote: This morning I checked my email and someone had written me to tell her she just loved my work. How nice is that? I thought it was so nice. Thank you!Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-31983801120748661472008-09-11T11:58:00.000-07:002008-09-11T12:03:05.599-07:00Kristina Mendoza's Wedding!
I have some pictures of my latest bride, Kristina, who was married a few weeks back in late August. I just have these raw digital camera pictures for now, but plan on updating my website with the professionals, coming soon. Ugh, I look so bad.

Yay!

Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-50384027265531029732008-09-05T13:47:00.000-07:002008-09-11T11:21:44.478-07:00Brushes....The Dos and Don'tsPeople tend to ask me to take a look at their make-up case. Apparently, most of my friends enjoy abuse. When I do make-up for women I don't even know, sometimes they whip out their little bag, and allow me to peek inside and rate what they have.

My biggest issue is not your eyeshadow. It is not your lipstick. It is not your foundation...although now that we're on topic, if you've had your foundation for more than a year, please throw it out. You should actually be rotating foundations (or anything liquid) every 6 months. Blegh! What I have a problem with is your brushes. Please.....Invest. I know that they can be pricey, but if you're smart, your brushes can last for over a decade. I've had some of mine for that long, and they're still goin' strong!

When buying a brush, make sure it's natural horse, squirrel, or some sort of course animal hair...Although I've heard squirrel is best. Buy a brush that has a thick ferrule (where the bristols fit into). If you are playing with the brush in the store and the pieces start to fall off, skip that brush and go on to another. There are different opinions on how to take care properly. Some people use mild shampoo for extensive cleaning. Just run the tip through warm water, wipe off on Kleenex, shape the bristols and lay flat to dry. Other people use the spray you can buy from Shopper's or other cosmetic places. I like using that as a spritz, for days that have gone by and shaping them up a bit. I like Quo's brush cleaner. $10 bucks and you get a huge spray bottle.

If you're looking for decent brushes, save your Optimum points at Shopper's Drug Mart and buy theirs from Quo. If I hadn't already hired a makeup artist for the wedding, it would have definitely been her.

-Anonymous

I had my boudoir done in Toronto by Jessica Blaine Smith - she was AWESOME! I love my photos! Her website is www.jbsmithphotography.com and you can look at her blog... she has boudoir sessions every few months! Mine cost either $300 or $350, I don't remember which, and it included makeup - her makeup artist was Megan Pais, and she was just amazing, love her!

- Rebecca

My name is Kristina, you did my makeup on June 14th for my boudoir photoshoot with Jessica. I just wanted to say that I loved what you did with my makeup. I liked your style of makeup so much that I wanted to know if you are available to do my makeup the day of the wedding, along with some of my bridal party…..

- KristinaMegan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-37246493582726320262008-08-29T06:22:00.000-07:002008-08-29T07:44:32.040-07:00Botox-In-A-Can...Alright, for you older ladies out there, don't get excited...I don't actually have botox-in-a-can.....

What I do have, however, is a finishing spray that will hold your make-up better than an Evian pump.
I remember buying my can of Kryolan for the first time. I went into Industry Cosmetics down on College and Bay in Toronto, and I saw this glow from a far corner....It was calling to me....."Buy Me....BUYYYY Me....." it seemed to say.....

Ok, so it didn't sing to me, but I was highly interested as I'd heard girls using setting sprays that was essentailly over-priced mineral water. Yea! Like, Vichy and Evian both make one, AND you can get setting sprays from MAC and Make-Up Forever...Which cost you $40 bucks and it's just a sort of mist....And don't get me wrong, when you're on a plane for a long time and your face is dehydrated, alot of women do enjoy this as a refresher, but I wouldn't spend more than $1.50 where I can just hook it up to a spray bottle and mist my face instead of putting down a second mortgage on my house for the same idea but with a cute little name on it...

ANYWAY.....So I'm at Industry, and I buy the can. I take it home and do a make-up application on my sister for some party she's off to, and I say "Hey, I got this new thing, and I want you to be my guinea pig" So I spray her....and she looks at me, her face frozen....Her creases unable to crease....And she calls it...."Botox-In-A-Can". So, that's what it's coined for me and my regulars.

If you're just an every day lady, and you're getting your make-up done, make sure that your artist has some sort of setting spray. The reason why this is so great, other than the fact that it freezes your face (which is actually a temporary feeling, you get used to it and you can move around again) is because it's really does keep everything from slipping off in heat, sweat and rubbing on other people when you kiss and hug and move around. Kryolan is more for theatre make-up, but I use it every time I have a big day and all my customers think it's fabulous.

If you're an artist, don't go spending your hard earned money on a $40 can at Industry for a small can. Order it online at Cosplaysupplies and get a HUGE can for $23.

I know on this blog I'm sounding totally frugal. But this is what keeps my prices low and keeps money in my pocket. I don't mind spending on good stuff, but it has to be worth my dollar. To be a successful businesswoman like myself :) you have to be smart with every penny you make...Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-71414454720672875502008-08-28T11:06:00.000-07:002008-08-28T11:15:00.092-07:00My Empty Weekend Turned Hectic..So, this coming weekend was my weekend to relax. I was looking forward to it, although having business coming in is always a nice surprise. And that's what I got...A surprise phone call.

And...I just got another one for September the 13th....

So, where was I going with this? Oh yes...

So I got a call from a bride, and I actually mentioned her in an earlier post about CONTRACTS!!!, and I'm not only doing her wedding this Saturday but a boudoir RIGHT after. So things are actually starting to book up. And don't think that every weekend in September just filled up about 3 minutes ago!!

I'm not complaining.

I have to find time to fix some of the pictures I have posted for my weddings. I think some are either outdated, or I have girls in there in the backgrounds of whose make-up I didn't do, and some pictures are just plain dark. So...learning to crop and lighten pictures is in my weekend plans.

If any of you are looking for a day-of wedding planner for a very good price, I do have someone who is amazing at it. Maybe I should make that an entire page on my website....hmmmm.....Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-84933308684732622008-08-27T12:27:00.000-07:002008-08-29T09:31:35.561-07:00Lashes Lashes Lashes! For those of you who know me, I am a HUGE advocate for falsies. Ok, we're not talking about breasteses here, we're talkin' about LASHES!

I love them. The way they extend your eye. They come in a vareity of colours and shapes. Thick, thin, green, black, blue....Whatever your heart desires.

People always come to me, buying MAC lashes, which I never understand. You're paying more than double the price, for what? You'd be surprised what other, less expensive lashes can do for you. And those of you who have never given it a second thought because application looks tricky, I suggest you don't sell yourself short on a special occasion.

Things you need, if attempting day-long lashes by yourself.....

1. A mirror
2. lashes
3. Scissors
4. Glue

Now, this isn't a lesson on how to put them on. If you wanted one, then you'd call me and I'd just come over and do it for you :)

What this is, is what's the difference, what are the best, and where do you get....LASHES!?

I have bought my lashes at both Shopper's (I like the Quo ones, but since the price has increased, I wait until they're on sale) OR I have recently tried the Wet N' Wild lashes. Now, Wet N' Wild is for kiddies, but I tried them on a trial last night, and VA VA VOOM they looked good.

Here's a picture. I had the lashes named "Vivacious"....

And they feel so soft...Not as hard as the other falsies.

I figured for the price, I would get crap, but I'm very happy with its look, and to be honest, I'm going to skip on spending $7.00 a pair, and put down my $3.50 for these puppies.

You can find these at Wal-Mart!

Megan Paishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00651231983080695787noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2526181150789199501.post-58061352591683337802008-08-25T12:22:00.000-07:002008-08-25T13:09:16.726-07:00Things You Should Look For In A Make-Up Artist...Because the majority of readers who come through here are either brides-to-be or women about to have boudoir done, I'm going to walk you through what to expect from your artist on the day (and even before) you go and spend money on him/her.

Being in the business for a few years now, I've heard alot of horror stories, and seen alot of panicked girls frantically searching for a replacement (or simply cry over the fact they're locked into a horrible contract they can't get out of and are miserable).

First things first. The style. You want to have an artist that is going to give your look the style you are looking for. Do you want glam? Intense? Natural? Find out what you're expecting first, and if her portfolio (or trial) can deliver, then you're on your way...

Next, search for pricing. Is it reasonably within your budget for the amount of faces being done? Make sure she's within industry standards, and that her prices remain throughout the entire length of the contract. Don't think I wasn't called yesterday by a bride getting married THIS Saturday and was out of a make-up artist because hers went from 65$ to $100 and something PER girl a week before her wedding. Be smart, ladies, SIGN CONTRACTS!

After your style and price is figured out, next you have to meet with her. Go over your wants and needs (she should ask you...but if she doesn't tell her EXACTLY what you want). This can be something like "NO black-eyeliner" "No red cheeks" or "Only make my eyes pop, and please mute my lips"...Hey, it's your face. If you don't really know what looks best, maybe here's the time to let your artist shine to see if she really knows how to make a person look their best. Let her take reign. It may be a bit strange seeing yourself look so made up while you're probably in your jeans and a tee, so if you're a bride, wear a white shirt and maybe put some nice earrings on and clip your hair how it will be on your wedding day so you can get a good sense of how it will all come together. Maybe a picture from a magazine would even be a great idea!

I had a wedding this past Saturday, and I was applying lashes on a girl who I don't think ever wore them before and was a bit on the naturalist side. I put the lashes on -they were fantastic. She looked at herself and was a little shocked. She asked around what people thought, and everyone thought they looked great. I said - walk around, look at yourself and wait. I have one girl to do still. If you still feel the same when I'm done, we'll take 'em off.

Sure enough, 10 minutes later she comes back in.."I love 'em." Uh-huh! haha

Now, people always ask about the make-up itself. Some girls have kits from a specific company, some girls have a mish mash and some girls are just plain all over the place. In any case, in my opinion, I think that if a make-up artist has the best from each cosmetic manufacturer, this is best. Yes, I am bias because that's what my kit looks like. I have colours, foundations, blushes and mascaras from different types. They range from Bonnebell to MAC. Not only does this keep my costs low, but I'm taking the best from each line. I think Bonnebell glosses are great for that extra glass shine. I think MAC has fantastic eyeshadows that hold. Sephora's glosses for colours are great and natural and L'Oreal has a great long-lasting foundation, the Infalliable.

Not only is it good for the reasons I mentioned above, but most girls don't really know what make-up to wear or what should go in her day-of kit. This way, if I have real, afforable products, then the girls I work on can just go and buy those products to keep for themselves.

Even with foundation, they'll like the feel with the Infalliable, they'll say, "Oh! I'm a Buff??" Oh yea sister, you're not Classic Ivory. Please stop looking like a ghost! haha

So, you've picked your style, kept it in your price range, acknowledged the kit...After she applies your make-up, you have to decide (whether right away or in a few days when you've made your mind up) if you're going to keep her. Please please PLEASE sign a contract. In that contract figure out the day of wedding, the time she'll show up (around the time of hair is best) HOW MUCH she'll be, and if she's staying for touch-ups, is it by the hour? By person? Travel fees? Contact info and make sure you know her rules. I know I have a 30 day policy of # of people change. So if you say in December for your July wedding "You're doing 5 people" and three days before the wedding you let me know that I'm only doing 2....I have to charge you for not keeping me in the loop. 30 days and your girls should be able to confirm with you whether they're in or out. I feel this is a fair deal. I don't leave you with half your girls undone so the same logic is had in return.

Make sure you grab an invoice in the end. Tipping is only required if she works for a larger company. Usually self-owners like myself don't require tipping...However nice it is. :)

And that, my fellow make-up artist shoppers is that. It's a strange world out there when you're paying something for a service like this. But because you already have so many other services to pay for and research, don't get yourself stuck in something you're not really happy with.

At the end of the day, you have to like your artist. She is going to be apart of your memories in the hours before you wedding, so your personalities have to match - in style and in general likability.

Good luck. SIGN CONTRACTS! :)

And at the last resort, kill their reputation if they end up messing with you........
